What Foods Cause Miscarriage In Early Pregnancy?

The nine months of pregnancy are an emotional and physical roller coaster ride. The body of a woman goes through significant changes during this period.

Pregnant women must have a nutritious, balanced diet high in fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, not all foods are suitable to consume while pregnant. Certain meals can result in an early pregnancy miscarriage.

Most women know that specific foods like papaya, pineapple, and uncooked eggs can harm their pregnancy. These foods can provoke miscarriage, specifically during the first trimester. Nonetheless, the checklist does not finish here.

You need to learn which are more foods you should avoid eating when pregnant to prevent miscarriage. Thus, this article will discuss foodstuffs that can prove ruinous in the initial months of your pregnancy.

Pineapple

Pineapple includes bromelain, which softens the cervix and initiates unusual labour contractions, resulting in pregnancy loss. Pregnant women can consume average amounts of pineapples during the initial stages of pregnancy, but when pineapple is eaten in heavy quantities, it can cause bleeding. Hence, remember to speak with your medical practitioner before starting eating it.

Sesame Seeds

You should avoid consuming sesame seeds in increased amounts. Sesame seeds, whether black or white, when you have them with honey, can trouble pregnancy.

Crabs

Though crabs are a high source of calcium, they also possess increased cholesterol levels. Hence, it can induce shrinkage of your uterus and internal bleeding or miscarriage. Therefore, it will be good for you to refrain from ingesting it during pregnancy.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is famous for its various health benefits but is not helpful for pregnant women slowly eating it during pregnancy. Aloe vera includes anthraquinones, a laxative that generates contractions in a uterus and pelvic bleeding. It can result in a miscarriage. Also, applying aloe vera gel to the face is not dangerous during pregnancy.

Papaya

Unripe and green papayas include components that work as laxatives and obtain premature labour. Papaya seeds are also affluent in enzymes that force contraction of the uterus and lead to a miscarriage.

Raw Dairy Items

Various dairy items such as unpasteurised milk and gorgonzola, feta, mozzarella, and brie combinations of cheese contain harmful bacteria like Listeria monocytogenes, which can be detrimental to your pregnancy. Ingesting such dairy items can direct to pregnancy difficulties.

Drumstick

When eating drumsticks while pregnant, women need to use precautions. It contains alpha-sitosterol, which is bad for pregnant women. You can eat drumsticks in moderation because they are high in iron, potassium, and vitamins.

Caffeine

According to a study, consuming caffeine in limit is safe during pregnancy. Still, you should follow some restrictions as high caffeine levels can lead to a miscarriage or an underweight infant. Caffeine is not only found in coffee but also some tea, chocolates and energy beverages.

Peach

Evade eating peaches in large quantities during pregnancy since it can generate inflated heat in the body and conduct internal bleeding. Additionally, pregnant women should remove peach skin before consumption since the fruit's hair might irritate and burn the throat.

High Mercury Fish

During the initial months of pregnancy, you should be careful while eating fish. Avoid eating fish with a high mercury concentration, such as king mackerel, bigeye tuna, orange roughy, shark, marlin, shellfish, and swordfish. Your kid's developing brain and nerve system may suffer if you consume too much mercury.

Herbs

Most specialists recommend against eating herbs during pregnancy. Spices, including steroids, can negatively impact your child’s development.

For instance, Centella can affect the liver, leading to severe jaundice and brain injury in the infant. Compounds in Dong Quai can start a miscarriage or early birth. It seems essential to speak with a doctor before taking any herbs.

Wild Apples

You should not eat wild apples during pregnancy. Their acidic and sour effects might provoke your uterus to contract and direct to early labour or a miscarriage.

Processed Meat

Processed food consumption is not advised while expecting. It is always better to stay away from sausages, filled meat, minced meat, pate, deli meat, salami, and pepperoni when pregnant. Processed meat can contain bacteria such as toxoplasma gondii, listeria, and salmonella, resulting in severe difficulty and miscarriage.

Seafood

Numerous seafood such as shellfish, sashimi, oysters, sushi, and prawns might be polluted with listeria, resulting in premature labour or miscarriage. So you should consume only cooked seafood in a limited amount. Also, be cautious while eating seafood at a Japanese restaurant because it can still be uncooked on the inside.

Eggs and Poultry Items

You should take care eating eggs and poultry items during pregnancy because eggs include the salmonella bacteria that can generate issues like food poisoning, diarrhoea, fever, intestinal discomfort and miscarriage.

Thus, cook the eggs until the whites and yolk become solid before eating. It will aid you in destroying the bacteria and makes it secure to ingest. You should also restrict eggnog, mayonnaise, soufflé, smoothies, and raw eggs.

Dirty and Unpeeled Vegetables

Green leafy vegetables are healthy for you, but you should wash them before eating. Raw or unwashed vegetables contain toxoplasma gondii, a parasite which generates toxoplasmosis.

If you get infected with a harmful component, it might pass to your unborn child. Therefore, washing vegetables in clean salt water will be good and peeling them off if required before consuming.

Spices

Spices add taste to meals, but specific spices such as asafoetida, fenugreek, garlic, peppermint, and angelica are good to avoid having during pregnancy. These spices might provoke your uterus into contractions and premature miscarriage. They might also induce blood thinning and bleeding while pregnant.

Uncooked Sprouts

Many women choose to eat sprouts, but raw sprouts like alfalfa, radish clover, and mung bean include salmonella. So, instead of that, you should have cooked sprouts; they are safe.

Sprouted Potatoes

Long periods of inactivity cause tiny green sprouts in potatoes. Such potatoes are dangerous for expectant mothers. Solanine, a substance found in sprouted potatoes, can impede foetal growth.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption by women may need to end once they become pregnant. Alcohol impairs the child's developing brain and raises the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth at the same time. Even a modest amount can cause a baby to be born with intellectual problems, cardiac issues, and malformations of the face.

Junk Food

Junk food doesn’t give any nutrients and contributes to high calories, fats and sugars. Too much sugar during pregnancy can induce gestational diabetes, weight gain and heart illnesses. It even enhances the possibility of an overweight newborn.

Bottom Line

Sustaining a wholesome and balanced diet is fundamental during pregnancy. You should have knowledge of which foods are good and which are not to eat. Further, moderation is critical while eating in early pregnancy since anything eaten in a surplus amount can be detrimental to pregnancy.
